How to Clean a Door Mat?

As door mats serve the purpose of capturing dirt and moisture at the entrance, over time the appearance may start to look unkempt. The performance of the mat could also start to decrease as it is no longer able to absorb moisture and scrape away dirt. On the bright side, cleaning our door mats are simple and only takes a short amount of time.

Alternatively, just simply vacuuming or using a carpet extraction machine will produce excellent cleaning results and have your mat looking and performing as good as new. How to Stop Your Door Mat from Moving?

There are a number of ways you can prevent your mat from slipping, these include:

• Backing material – A door mat with non-slip rubber backing is much less likely to move or creep than a door mat with a PVC or vinyl backing for example.
• Backing options – Some mats have different backing options depending on the flooring you are placing them on. Make sure you choose the correct one for your flooring. The options are usually gripper or claw backing for carpeted floors and flat or smooth backing for hard floors.
• Non-slip underlay – Choose Teebaud Anti-Slip Mat Underlay. As the most effective underlay on the market, it is thin enough to remain unnoticeable and will fit under your mat and prevent it from moving or slipping on carpets or hard flooring.

 

How long should my Door Mat last?

How long your door mats should last depend on both the type of mat you choose and how busy of a home you are placing it in. Here are some factors to consider:

• Type of mat backing – A rubber backed door mat will always last longer than a PVC or Vinyl backed door mat. This is because it will not crack, split or curl and is also durable in all weather conditions.  
• The amount of mat pile – The heavier the pile on the door mat, the less likely it is to wear and give that ‘worn path appearance’. Have a look at the pile weight when choosing your door mat.  
• The amount of foot traffic – If you have a busy home with lots of friends, family, guests and pets visiting your home, it will obviously not last as long as a door mat in a quiet home. If you have a busy home, we suggest purchasing a rubber-backed mat as this is much more suited to higher foot traffic and will stand the test of time.
• Regular cleaning and maintenance – The most frequently you clean and maintain your door mat the longer it will last. Look after your door mat and it will look after you!

 

When do I need to replace my Door Mat?

Here are some signs to look out for that highlight that it may be time to replace your door mat:

• Cracked, split or curled edges
• Faded colours
