Save Your Business Money With High Quality Entrance Matting

Businesses throughout the UK should not underestimate the importance of good, high quality entrance matting. A mat looks like a mat regardless of what it costs.  You may then be tempted to go for the best looking mat at the lowest price.  Unfortunately too often this is what businesses do. And who can blame them unless they know the facts?  The cheaper option in the short term is not necessarily going to turn out to be the cheapest option in the long term.  Mark O'Sullivan of Mats 4 U, providers of ‘Waterhog’ entrance matting to firms and industries throughout the UK explains why.

80% of all dust, grime and dirt found inside a building has been tracked in from the outside on people’s feet. Once inside the building, the dirt will sit in the carpet and flooring until people walk on it and transport it to other locations around the building.  This will be an on-going process until the flooring is thoroughly cleaned and the dirt removed. Worse still dirt will be pushed deeper into the flooring permanently damaging your expensive floors and carpets.  In carpets, dirt particles cause friction against the fibres of the carpet, which means they wear much faster and will have to be replaced a lot sooner.  Normal vacuuming leaves most of these particles behind.  The best solution to the problem is to either ask all visitors to take off their shoes before entering the premises, or more simply make sure the right entrance matting is being used.

An Effective Entrance Mat System

An effective dual entrance matting system

Without any matting at all, in a typical building, one square yard of carpet can accumulate one pound of dirt in a week and twice that in bad weather.  Mats 4 U estimate the cost to remove one pound of dirt from a building would be in excess of £400 a year in cleaning costs.  Cheap entrance matting may ‘scrape’ a certain amount of the dirt off people’s feet, but until the mat is cleaned this dirt will be transported into the building by subsequent others entering the building.  High performance matting, such as Waterhog Classic and Waterhog Eco matting, as well as wiping and scraping footwear, will also ensure that the dirt and moisture falls to a lower level in the mat, preventing it from being tracked further into the building. Therefore less dirt enters the building in the first place and huge costs are saved in floor maintenance throughout the building.

Businesses must be aware that the initial cost of investing in high quality entrance matting is relatively small when the future cleaning and flooring replacement costs are taken into consideration.
